Pre-Kindergarten Program
Age Group: three-year-olds
Days: Monday and Wednesday
Times: 1.00 p.m. to 3.00 p.m.
Tuition: $140 per month
Registration Form
The main purpose of the program is to give young children a fun and meaningful introduction to a structured preschool environment, where they can learn to interact well with other children and adults. Planning of activities focuses on “whole-child” development so that social, emotional, creative, physical and cognitive needs and skills are all considered. In this program, children learn to follow simple directions with activities that focus on, and develop manipulative and creative skills. As the year progresses, activities will concentrate more on pre-reading, pre-writing, and pre-math skills, in preparation for the Junior Kindergarten program. Children will also partake in a gym program in the community gymnasium every two weeks. In all activities, individual abilities and talents are central in the nurturing and development of self-esteem, and children are guided at their own pace.
Activities are presented in monthly themes, which help to enhance children’s knowledge of themselves, the community and the world around them.

The main purpose of the program is to build on the experiences of the Pre-Kindergarten, and to prepare children for Kindergarten. Planning of activities focuses on “whole-child” development so that social, emotional, creative, physical and cognitive needs and skills are all considered. Manipulative and creative activities now focus more specifically on pre-reading, pre-writing, and pre-math skills, and children are encouraged to plan and share their activities of the day. As in the Pre-Kindergarten program, we consider individual abilities and talents are central in the nurturing and development of self-esteem, and children are guided at their own pace.
During the year, students will participate in the Jolly Phonics program, Matt and Molly language program, and Handwriting Without Tears program. Children will be attending gym in the community gymnasium twice a week, and will also play in the outdoor playground. Every month, children will have a special event. This may be a field trip or a visitor. Parents will be notified of these events by the monthly calendar and newsletter.
Activities are presented in monthly themes, which help to enhance children’s knowledge of themselves, the community and the world around them.

Our program is funded by Alberta Education and we therefore follow the rationale and philosophy that has been prepared by Alberta Education for the Kindergarten program. The Kindergarten program not only helps prepare children for entry into Grade 1, but also provides a foundation for later success. The purpose of Kindergarten is to provide learning experiences that are developmentally appropriate in order to meet the diverse needs of children and promote a positive attitude toward lifelong learning.
